The Union Representative/Organizer will primarily work with our members at ServiceNet, a multi-site employer based in Western Massachusetts. This is subject to change based on UAW 2322’s needs.
ServiceNet is a non-profit human services agency with dozens of program sites serving people with mental illness, developmental delay or disability, brain injury, homelessness, substance use issues, and other challenges in Western Massachusetts. Over 500 UAW members work at the agency primarily in roles as counselors supporting clients with activities and daily living in group homes, independent living, shelters, and enrichment centers. The union has existed for over 30 years. The membership is diverse, and includes people of many ages, backgrounds, and nationalities.
Hours of work: Flexible full-time (40 hours) work schedule (can be long & unpredictable based on membership needs).
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Coordinating member-driven and member-lead contract negotiations
- Working with members and stewards to administer and enforce contracts, resolve disputes, process grievances, arbitrations and Unfair Labor Practices and using these as organizing opportunities
- Consistently organizing and meeting members at the worksite, in the community, and with other modalities
- Facilitate labor-management meetings in worksites
- Organizing and facilitating member trainings
- Identify, recruit, train and develop worksite leaders
- Conduct new member orientations to organize new members
- Engage in internal member mobilization activities around workplace issues, and organize workers to address issues through collective action with a critical racial and gender justice lens
- Maintain regular and effective communication with workers
- Build and strengthen stewards networks
- Organize and participate in rallies, demonstrations, and meetings (including but not limited to: Joint Council meetings, stewards’ meetings, committee meetings, coalition meetings, etc)
- Participate in and recruit members to participate in legislative and electoral campaign activities
- Develop fliers, posters, buttons, slogans and other campaign-related materials and items
- Help develop the Union’s message by talking to members, stewards and union leaders, and articulate this message among the membership at large
- Keep E-Board and Joint Council advised of any developments regarding potential problems, hot issues, and activities union needs to be involved in
- Managing electronic lists
Skills and Qualities Preferred:
- A demonstrated commitment to the labor movement and racial equity and justice
- Familiarity with human services and education workplaces
- Prior organizing experience with demonstrable successes
- Past union experience including collective bargaining, grievance handling, organizing (new and internal) and first contract campaigns
- Familiarity with labor and employment law
- Basic legal research experience
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict transformation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write quickly and succinctly
- Detail oriented
- Ability to work with and take direction from the Local President, Executive Board and Joint Council and union members
- Creative and strategic thinker
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Patience, persistence and flexibility
- Computer literate: email, Google Workspace, social media, word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), Zoom, and organizing tools
- A properly insured, registered vehicle and a valid Driver’s License is required
- Skills in languages other than English preferred

Starting pay rate: $1250 starting pay per week. Salary and benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, child care assistance, and student loan reimbursement are generous and dictated by a staff CBA. Staff are represented by IWW 650.

Position: Full Time (40 hours) Office and Finance Administrator at a progressive, democratic union based out of Holyoke, MA.
Hours of work: Forty (40) hours per week, Monday-Friday, inclusive of one-hour lunch. Work hours will be flexible within the 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. workday.
The employee will be expected to work from the Holyoke, MA office of UAW Local 2322.
This position reports to the Local President and works with members of the Executive Board, including the Financial Secretary and Trustees.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Prepare weekly payroll and accounts payable processing
- Support staff with enrolling and using benefits
- Support union representatives/organizers with procuring member information from employers
- Verifying accuracy of dues registers and reporting any anomalies or discrepancies
- Assist with annual reporting for local union (990, LM-2, etc)
- Assist with paying of payroll taxes, unemployment taxes, and other taxes
- Assist with processing approved reimbursements to staff and members
- Receive dues remittance checks from employers and deposit them into the local union bank account. Assist with preparing receipts for all income as required by International UAW
- Assist with recording information in financial software
- Prepare bank deposit documentation and record deposits in financial software
- Track monthly income by unit and determine budget variances
- Prepare annual income budget projections
- Assist financial secretary with responsibilities to elected union bodies and international union
- Assist with standardized dues reporting requirement template for all employers
- Checking phone messages and returning calls
- And other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in accounting or similar field or 3-5 years of equivalent work experience
- Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
- Detail-oriented
- Self-starter with problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Digital literacy
