It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our former GEO-UAW 2322 Grievance Coordinator, Manuel Matos. Manuel, who was pursuing his PhD in Sociology, was a strong fighter for workers’ rights on campus. As Grievance Coordinator in 2015-2016, Manuel was instrumental for our win on Late Pay, the settlement of multiple grievances and building the union in the critical moments leading up to contract bargaining.  We are all very honored to have gotten to know and work with Manuel, who brought so much to the collective work we do to protect and care for this community. We mourn the loss of him, his words, his ideas and his living spirit. Ours is a better union because of Manuel’s tireless work in the name of justice and his dedication to facing injustices head on. We feel deeply that we have lost the possibilities of a tremendous future Manuel was capable of manifesting, and yet even in our sadness we recognize that his spirit and legacy will be with all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. Manuel Presente!
