Dear Members,
The Solidarity and Education Committee will be meeting tomorrow night (Wednesday, June 18th) at 6pm at the Northampton Brewing Company. We encourage all who are interested in joining this committee, or just want to find out more, to join us. Please read below for more information about this committee and its past accomplishments.
The Education and Solidarity Committee is tasked with creating educational opportunities for UAW members to learn about their Union and the progressive labor movement in this and around the world. In addition to this formidable task, this committee also informs and fosters opportunities for UAW members to participate in real acts of solidarity by joining in the picket lines, marches, and rallies of our fellow workers in the Labor Movement.
Over the past couple of years, this committee has created a successful free film series about the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs, Peace and Freedom in downtown Northampton. We have also helped to coordinate a number of stewards, member, and activist trainings to help educate our members about those important roles. We created a donation suggestion worksheet for Joint Council/E-Board to consider when making financial donations to other progressive organizations. In addition to all of this, we have ?walked the walk? on picket lines and rallies with organizations like No One Leaves- Springfield, MNA, IBEW & CWA at Verizon, Raise Up Massachusetts, Health Care for All. and many others.
In Solidarity,
Carly Houston Overfelt, on behalf of the Solidarity and Education Committee
