AFSCME local 1776, the union who represents many of our workers in the dining commons, Physical Plant, housing, etc. is fighting to represent non-unionized workers on campus. A category of employee, 03, is considered to be temporary, and so those hired as ’03’s’ work for much lower wages and few benefits. These positions are rarely temporary though, leaving some workers doing the same work as a union counterpart, but for much less pay and no representation. You can find 03’s all over UMass, from the Campus Center to offices in Whitmore and your department. Support these workers as they vote to become part of AFSCME 1776 on May 3 and 4.
Join other UMass workers to make sure everyone who works here has fair representation and benefits. The rally will be outside the Student Union on Thursday, April 28 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. The final GEO meeting of this academic year will start at 5pm in Campus Center 917.
